The Mandan Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division is responsible for the investigation of most major crimes or serious misdemeanors that require extra follow-up investigation, and Sex Offender Registration. Examples of crimes they investigate includes burglary, child abuse, sex crimes, fraud, death investigation, felonious assault, juvenile crime, arson, drugs and criminal intelligence.
The mission of the Investigation Division is to gather and evaluate evidence, take statements from victims, witnesses and suspects and present cases to the Morton County States Attorneys Office for prosecution.
The Investigation Division is staffed with six investigators, one Warrant's Officer, one Evidence Technician, one
Investigation's Lieutenant Brent Wilmeth
Investigation Sergeant, and one Investigation Lieutenant. Mandan Investigators are all trained in the general practices of criminal investigation. The Investigators are on duty or on-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. To contact an investigator call the Mandan Police Department at 701-667-3250.
The Mandan Police Department's Investigations supervisors also oversee the two full time School Resource Officers (SRO). The School Resource Officers (SRO) are certified law enforcement
officers who are permanently assigned to provide coverage to all Mandan
Schools. An SRO is specifically trained to perform three roles: law
enforcement officer, law-related counselor and law-related education
teacher.
